Dyspraxia In Children – The Early Warning Symptoms

Dyspraxia is a condition affecting physical co-ordination that urges a child to perform less well in his daily activities as per the age and situation. Dyspraxia also known as DCD is a common neurodevelopment disorder that is approximately found in more than 4 to 5% of children. More than girls, boys are more likely to be found with this disorder.

It affects the mental process, social functioning and activities of children. There are many commons symptoms of the disorder dyspraxia. Whereas some symptoms are shown in the late stage of the disorder, there are some that are shown in the early stage too. Some of the early warning symptoms are listed below as follow.

Difficulties In Contemplating Things In The Early Stage Of Life

If your child faces difficulty to understand or take a grasp of things that are being said or taught to him, then he’s very likely to be suffering from Dyspraxia. If the children have a history of swallowing difficulties in the first year of his/ her life, then Dyspraxia might be the cause of it. Before the situation gets out of hand, make sure you consult a doctor. Before that keep your child under strict observation, note all the bizarre moves he is making and inform the doctor once you pay a visit. 

Disability To Sit, Stand And Walk Properly

A lot of time, children face difficulty to sit, stand or walk properly in the initial years of their life. The milestones of mobility activities that have to be achieved in their early years of life will be delayed and it’d be difficult for them to carry out certain movements of their body, dyspraxia might be the cause of it. Moreover, a child going through dyspraxia is also likely to suffer from frequent falls and bumps even after the age of 3 years. There’d be delay in the ability to dress and undress. Adding to it, children suffering from dyspraxia are also very likely to wear clothes inside our or back to front frequently.

Speech Articulation Difficulties

Immature speech or facing difficulties while trying to form sentences is a common early symptom of dyspraxia. The children undergoing dyspraxia are also prone to become easily distressed or undergo temper tantrums. They will face persistent language difficulties. They will also have a very low response to the verbal instructions given to them and may respond very slowly. These children will also have a lack of comprehension within them.

They’ll also keep themselves isolated from the peer group. Moreover, they will try to make as less contact with the people surrounding them. They’ll be rejected by the peers and will prefer the adult company more than those of their same age. Anxiety will be a common factor that can be found amidst such children. They will have limited concentration and will often leave tasks unfinished.

Other common symptoms that can be identified are listed below:

  • Drooling After the Age of 3 years
  • Difficulty tying Shoelaces
  • Jumping, Climbing or Carrying Physical Activity Problems
  • Anxiety  & Isolation
