Top 3 Best Sports For Weight Loss

Weight loss and dieting is never easy. However, when you enjoy what you’re doing it isn’t as miserable as it seems. This is a technique I used while I was losing weight and it made the whole experience a lot easier. It is also great to have a social life. Having your friends around you and making new ones is also good. But what are the best sports for weight loss? Well, here are my top 3 best sports for weight loss.

1. Soccer

Soccer is the best known sport in the world and there are so many active players and clubs. No matter where you live there is guaranteed to be a soccer club near you.

This is a great sport for weight loss. Most of the soccer is running. Running alone is another great way to lose weight but why do it all alone when you can be with your friends having fun.

Per mile of running, the average person can burn up to 100 calories. It varies a lot how many calories you’re going to burn in a single game of soccer. However, on average a professional soccer player could run up to 5 miles. This would burn 500 calories. There’s no guarantee that you burn this many calories, but it will certainly be affective for weight loss.

3. Boxing

Boxing is one of my favourite sports. I even used this sport in my own weight loss journey. Unlike boxing there may not be a club near you. However, you don’t necessarily need to be a part of a gym to take part in boxing.

Personally, I just like to swing at a punch bag that I bought for $50 online. I built my own wooden frame for the bag and keep it in my garage.

You can also find coaches that make house calls. Yes, this may be a more expensive option but if you really want to improve at the sport, then a coach may be a good option for you.

A lot of the training for boxing involves gym work. This means that the serious fighters have to do a lot of running and weight training in order to become their best. But if you are just doing it for fun, then there’s no problem with just boxing for enjoyment.

3. Swimming

Swimming might not be a sport for everyone; however it is very good for weight loss. I have taken into consideration that not everyone is able to swim and not everyone lives near a swimming pool.

Swimming is a great skill to have and it’s never too late to learn. If you want to learn how to swim, then there is guaranteed to be an instructor willing to give you classes at your local leisure centre.

Swimming is a great sport for weight loss. Per 10 minutes of swimming your body could burn up to 80 calories. This is one of the most effective sports for weight loss, and anybody can do it.

People who are more extremely overweight can swim pain free. For some obese or elderly people walking and running can be painful. However, when you swim there is no pressure on your joints or back. So, it’s all pain free.

Will playing sports be enough to lose weight

Weight loss is not rocket science. For decades we have understood the simple formula to lose weight. You simply have to burn more calories than you consume.

There is two different approaches to this. The first one is diet. The average male needs to consume roughly 2500 calories a day in order to maintain their body weight, and the average female needs 1900 calories.

Side not: Females need less calories as they do not carry as much muscle mass as males.

In order to lose weight all you have to do is put your body in a slight calorie deficit. This can be achieved be cutting out 300 calories of your diet. It doesn’t sound like a lot and that’s because it isn’t.

The second way is to put yourself in a calorie deficit by burning 200-300 calories. This can be achieved by running, swimming, and boxing. If you choose this way then you are able to eat the same diet you are currently eating.

To be honest, the best and most effective way to lose weight is by combining these two methods together.

Benefits of playing sports

There are a lot more than just physical benefits from playing sports. Being around friends and making new ones id great for your mind. A lot of people get to involved in social media and live a life on there phone and computer. However, when you are socializing it makes you feel appreciated.

You also feel great after doing something productive. Many people say that a gym is a great place for your mental health, and it’s true. Nothing makes you feel better than lying in bed at night and knowing that you have done a positive thing.

Another great reason is the health benefits. If you work an office job or just don’t get that much activity, then you are a lot more at risk for health problems. Just getting an hour or two of exercise a day can improve your body drastically. Playing a sport for weight loss is like killing two birds with one stone. Not only are you losing weight and being active but you are also meeting and socializing with people.

If you are nervous about taking up a new hobby or sport, don’t be. Everybody has to start somewhere and people are not as judgemental as you think.

In conclusion

So in conclusion, any sport where you have to be uncomfortably active will be affective. However, in my opinion football, boxing, and swimming is 3 of the best sports for weight loss. If you want to take part in any of those sports, then you should reach out into your local community and find an instructor or a club that will allow you to join.
