Why Smoothies Are the Best Way to Start Your Day

As we all know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But what is the best breakfast? For years I have always started my day with a healthy breakfast smoothie. They’re quick and easy, and all the nutrition that your body needs it can get in a simple smoothie. 

Here’s the recipe I have been using myself for over 2 years now. I used this simple blend of ingredients daily while losing weight. I managed to lose over 2 stone of excess fat in 3 months with this simple recipe.

  • 1 egg
  • 1 scoop whey protein powder
  • 2 scoops porridge oats
  • 2 handfuls of frozen berries 
  • 150ml of cranberry juice

You don’t have to copy this exactly. This is only here as a guide. I like to use protein powder to help build muscle. Personally, I use Promix organic protein powder. However, you can use and add whatever you want to your smoothie. That’s the fun of it, you get to get creative and explore all the tastes and textures. 

Why I drink smoothies

Everything my body needs is in this smoothie. I get enough protein to rebuild my muscles after my workout the night before and enough carbs to energize me for the rest of a busy day. I used to only add berries for the taste, however, I quickly came to notice how much more energized I felt when I incorporated them into my morning smoothie. This was because my body was lacking the vital vitamins and minerals that it needs to thrive.

Therefore, I love smoothies so much. Especially my own healthy breakfast smoothie that I used for my weight loss journey. All the energy your body needs is there along with all the nutrition your body needs to recover from whatever strenuous activity you’ve been doing the day before. There are not that many opportunities during the day that you can eat fruits. People struggle to eat 5 fruits a day and it’s easy to see why. At lunchtime it is much easier to grab a bar of chocolate or some sort of cracker to keep you going. Fruit just isn’t the favourite choice for people. However, now you can get all your 5 a day in one single meal. It is also easier to blend your fruit rather than eat it separately. Even though fruit is not calorie dense it has a lot of volume to it. For example, 3 average-sized bananas have roughly the same number of calories as a single slice of pizza. 3 bananas will fill you up a lot more and offer better nutrition. However, if you blend the bananas there are only a few mouths full of liquid there. It will keep you full for the same amount of time, but it will be easier and quicker to eat. This may also be a good option for you if you are trying to gain weight and bulk up.

6 Benefits of fruit smoothies

Here are 6 simple reasons you need to start your day with a smoothie.

It’s healthy. So many people completely neglect their health, and it takes a toll on them. After a few days of starting your day with a smoothie full of fruit, you will notice a rise in energy levels and a lighter feeling. Getting in all the vital vitamins and minerals into your diet can improve your life.

Practicality. Most people don’t have time to make pancakes every morning. It only takes 3 minutes to make a healthy breakfast smoothie. They are perfect for taking on the go with you. You also don’t have to look inside every cupboard in the morning and debate with yourself about what you want to eat. It’s super quick and easy to make and gives you the boost you need.

Weight loss/gain. Whether you want to put on weight or lose weight smoothies are the best option. The smoothie recipe above has around 400 calories, with cutting down on a few ingredients you could get that down to 250 calories. However, if you are trying to gain weight then you can do the opposite and double the ingredients. It will still have the same number of calories if you laid them out on a plate, but it will be a lot easier to consume. 

Taste. Most people fail to eat healthily because they cannot consistently eat boring bland green plain foods and therefore lose their motivation. Smoothies are ae as tasty as you make the. The combination of fruits such as pineapple and raspberry make a very tasty drink. Even if you choose to add an egg for protein you will not taste it or feel its texture of it. You can only taste the vivid flavours of the fruits. Whatever you put in your morning smoothie is up to you. Feel free to experiment.

Staying hydrated. A lot of people suffer from dehydration. This leads to horrible headaches and lightness. The fruit in smoothies is packed with natural liquids such as an apple or an orange. This juice is one of the best ways to hydrate yourself as you are getting so much nutrition at the same time as hydrating yourself. 

Volume. If you are trying to bulk up in the gym or gain weight, then you will understand how hard it is to eat a lot of food in a single sitting. If you put all the nutrition, you need into a smoothie you will have at least half the volume of the meal. Therefore, you will not feel uncomfortably full. This may also be good for people who struggle to eat in the morning. Some people do not like to eat in the morning as it makes them uncomfortable. I recommend that they try a healthy breakfast smoothie in the morning as breakfast is after all the most important meal of the day.

Negatives

Like with anything in life there are some negative points about drinking fruit smoothies. 

Smoothies can be quite costly. If you are using whole fruits in your smoothie every day, then the costs will stack up. The most expensive ingredient in my smoothie is protein powder. Protein supplements can cost anywhere from $20 to $70. Personally, I only pay $44 for a month’s supply of promix vanilla whey protein. However, this still works out to $1.33 per serving. Milk is another ingredient that can be expensive, especially if you drink almond or soya milk. To lower the cost, I recommend using cranberry juice. It will also give your drink a sweeter taste. Yes, you can of course make a smoothie everyday for a low price, but I do not recommend using expensive products.

However, we all know that fruit contains natural sugar, otherwise known as fructose. Fructose is a naturally occurring sugar in fruits. In small quantities it is healthy, but this does not mean that it is totally safe. Everyone knows that sugar can cause health problems such as diabetes and tooth decay. But how much is too much? It is said that 50g of fructose per day is a healthy amount. Even if you consume 100 grams of fructose a day it will not cause any direct problems for you. It is a lot healthier than regular sugar as it occurs naturally in the foods that we eat. If you do already have a lot of sugar in your diet or suffer from diabetes or high blood pressure, then you need to take this into consideration. 

Despite these negatives’ points, you can enjoy a healthy breakfast smoothie every morning. Fruit smoothies can improve your body’s health big time. They are packed with vitamins and minerals that improve your body and let it operate at 100% efficiency. Within a few days, you will notice a boost in your energy levels, clearer skin and brain clarity, and even possibly a mood boost.
